How to: Partition your hard-drive!

I have been asked many times how to partition a hard-drive, so I’m writing this blog with two methods, one for Windows Vista users and one for users with other operation systems.  For Vista users, life is much easier as Microsoft has embedded a neat feature in their operation system which allows you to do this very easily.  Here is a quick video running through how to partition a hard drive.

For users using other operating system such as Windows XP, there is a neat program called GParted; which can be downloaded from:  http://gparted.sourceforge.net/.  Once you have downloaded the file, you must burn it as an ISO image to a DVD.  Assuming that you know how to do this step, I will quickly run through the steps to partition your hard drive.  Do remember that if you have any questions about this tutorial, (if you don’t know how to make an ISO), feel free to email us!

  1. Insert the burned DVD.
  2. Select the “Don’t touch keymap”
  3. Next select the hard drive you wish to partition
  4. Finally, in the Partition menu select new or resize!
