Nokia Coming out with Multi-Touch phones?
2009
Nokia has been on the quiet side so far this year. The N97 has been announced for a while now but still no release, or a proper release date for that matter. Digitimes has reported that Nokia has placed orders of capacitive touch screens with Wintek. Capacitive touch screens, as opposed to resistive touch screens, are more finger friendly and do not require the tip of the finger or a stylus and instead uses the warmth of the finger to respond to touches. Apple hit big success with this multi-touch technology by using it on their iPhones and iPods. Apple also claims that this technology is theirs, but Palm has been the only company to challenge that by using multi-touch in their Palm Pre handset set to launch this summer. Nokia will be the second company to file the multi-touch patent. Apple has not yet taken any actions against Palm for the patent. Nokia is also allegedly planning on using advanced 3G technology on newer handsets set to be released this summer. The Nokia N97 device will not be equipped with this capacitive touch screen technology.
