So you got yourself a copy of Windows 7 Beta, RC or RTM and was wondering how the setup process would go. Well, one thing Microsoft has been doing so well is increasing the ease of installation so anyone can do it! This is a K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple and Stupid) guide to installing Windows 7 and these steps are somewhat the same for Windows Vista. It is very easy to install a Microsoft Operating System so read through this guide and save yourself $50 or more that Best Buy may charge to install it for you. So lets get on with it! Here are the precautions and preparations for installation and the actual procedures follow below.

  • Backup everything that is important to you, if you plan to keep you secondary partition, move important files to that partition
  • Save all bookmarks and tabs you may have in your internet browser in a Text file so you can get them back without forgetting them
  • You may also want to save the My Documents folder as it may have most of your important things
  • Be prepared to install fresh new copy of the OS rather than upgrading as it is more recommended/less conflicts
  • Keep a list of third party hardware or drivers that you may need to install separately so you can do that right after the format
  • You will be losing all of your data so think again and make sure you have everything you need, backup is the most important part of this entire process

Now that you are prepared, here we go:

1. Insert your DVD and restart your computer.
2. Press any key to boot from DVD.
3. Wait for windows to load all files.
4. Choose your Language, time and keyboard.
5. Click install now.
6. Read over the EULA and click I accept.
7. Choose Custom rather than upgrade.
8. Let it install windows, this takes about 20 minutes in total.
9. Put in user info and wireless Internet info.
10. Install drivers and windows updates, and input your activation key if you didn’t do so already.

As you can see it is very simple and basically following on screen instructions, if you come across any problems, leave a comment.

    Will I lose all data?

  2. Liquid says:

If you are formatting, yes you will, that is why you should back it up to a removable USB storage device, CD/DVD, or drop files and folders to a local disk on the PC that you will not be formatting (i.e Local Disk (D:))

It is showing code error 0×8007000, what can I do?

  4. Liquid says:

This is a Windows Update error, it is shown when there are administration permission conflicts, either try updating as an Administrator or use System Restore to go to a previous time and update as an Administrator from then.
