Top 5 iPhone Racers!

Dec 24
2009

I hope you all enjoyed the Top 5 iPhone Shooters, and if you are into iPhone racing games, here is the Top 5 iPhone racers. This list is in NO SPECIFIC ORDER, it is just a collection of the top racing games and giving the priority over one another was too difficult as they were each awesome in there own way. The recently released NFS Shift has not been reviewed yet, thus its absence in this list, but it certainly will be on the next Top 5 Racers list, if it sees the light of  day. Enjoy!

Real Racing

This is the most realistic racer on the iPhone, period. With more than 10 tracks, amazing graphics, various (about 5) methods of controls including accelerometer based, wheel, and touch, this game goes beyond limits. The special feature of this racer compared to others is the cockpit view with astonishing details for each car. Although they are not real (licensed) cars, except the newly added Volkswagon GTI, they are very unique and different in terms of looks and driving. You also get multiplayer so you can race friends…and foes. Do remember, this was released before the iPhone 3GS came out, what with the sexy graphics more RAM and CPU and all. So if Real Racing 2 ever comes out, you can expect it to top another racing games list.

NFS Undercover

The NFS franchise does it again! This game is nowhere near an ordinary NFS game for mobile. It is more like a PSP level game. Graphics push come through pushing your iPhone to its limit as you would expect EA Games to do. This one is packed with more than 25 real licensed cars than you can fully customize from body kits to paint to rims. The controls which involve swiping with fingers are different from others, the auto-acceleration and speed breaker slow-mo’s are also a plus. There is also a story line that keeps you wanting to keep playing. The down side? Well the completion of the game in general feels a bit quick, and the amount of cash you earn in the game is not enough for you to buy a higher tier car and still continue the game, because when you earn that much, you’re done the game.

Asphalt 5

Gameloft’s latest racer for your fingers. This one beats out its predecessor, Asphalt 4, and then some. With improved graphics and more colors everywhere, same controls as the previous one, and more real licensed car than its predecessor and NFS Undercover, this is yet another game that carries on the Asphalt brand. The graphics have a bit of a blurry touch to them that some of you might like and some might not, personally I find Asphalt 4, which didn’t have this effect, was better. But then again, it is an arcade style game so it might be suitable. If you’re looking for a fast paced racer with nice graphics and real cars, this is for you!

Asphalt 4

The first major racing game to be released on the iPhone. This one still beats out many others till this day. It can be agreed that Gameloft set its foot strong in the App store with this one. There are many licensed cars you can unlock and customize from body to decals to performance. There are many tracks for you to conquer from around the world with a variety of types races including cop chases, time trials and takedowns. This was one the first few games to boast the accelerometer controls which eventually shaped up the racing industry on the iPhone.

Rally Master Pro

This is different in many ways compared to the other racers. It is situated in a country-side world; you get different weather effects such as snow and rain. There is also real time damage to your car which can be repaired in between races. There is a choice between many cars, different tracks and very nice graphics that is different from other racers. The controls take a bit of getting used to at the beginning and the game in general has a slow paced feel to it. This is one of a kind racer in the App store that has yet to be copied.
