All About Google Part I

Oct 01
2009

Woah, that was a long break. Anyways, seeing as how Google is slowly beginning to conquer the internets, what with the out-of-beta Gmail, the upcoming Google OS, Google Wave, etc. I thought it would be useful if I put this up, now it is definitely missing a lot of newer Google apps and services, but it is taken from a book from 2006, its called 55 Ways to have fun with Google by Philipp Lenssen. Watch out for Part Two of All About Google where I will show you neat tricks and tips about Google’s Search Engine.

Oh, by the way, Tony is a Google Dev.

Tony, what is Picasa?
Tony: It’s a photo management/ organization application. You can download a program that allows you to manipulate your images.

What is Google Talk?
Tony: It’s an IM – Instant Messenger – application that allows online conversations and VoIP, Voice over IP.

What is Google Earth?
Tony: It’s fantastic! I’ve told my friends that it’s arguably the best thing to appear on the Internet this year! Seriously though, it’s a program that allows you view the earth from space. You can zoom in and view certain areas really close up.

How to Format your PC (Installing Windows 7)

Aug 05
2009

So you got yourself a copy of Windows 7 Beta, RC or RTM and was wondering how the setup process would go. Well, one thing Microsoft has been doing so well is increasing the ease of installation so anyone can do it! This is a K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple and Stupid) guide to installing Windows 7 and these steps are somewhat the same for Windows Vista. It is very easy to install a Microsoft Operating System so read through this guide and save yourself $50 or more that Best Buy may charge to install it for you. So lets get on with it! Here are the precautions and preparations for installation and the actual procedures follow below.

  • Backup everything that is important to you, if you plan to keep you secondary partition, move important files to that partition
  • Save all bookmarks and tabs you may have in your internet browser in a Text file so you can get them back without forgetting them
  • You may also want to save the My Documents folder as it may have most of your important things
  • Be prepared to install fresh new copy of the OS rather than upgrading as it is more recommended/less conflicts
  • Keep a list of third party hardware or drivers that you may need to install separately so you can do that right after the format
  • You will be losing all of your data so think again and make sure you have everything you need, backup is the most important part of this entire process

This is a proof of concept, ported by Wert of iSoftTeam. The iPhone 3GS, which clocks at 600 MHz is capable of running both versions of the ported OS’es but not so smoothly. Basic applications such as the calculator and paint run as they would on the original OS except a bit slower. Check it out:
