How to: Make free VoIP calls!

May 14
2009

VoIP can be defined as voice over internet protocol.  This simply allows one to make a voice call over the internet for free.  Now if you have a WiFi enabled device, such as recent symbian devices (n95, n82, 5800…) or an Apple iPhone, making a VoIP call is easier than ever.

To begin, we need a client to handle these calls; in this case, we will be using Fring.  Fring allows you to connect to your MSN, Gmail, Facebook, and other instant messaging services all at once.  There are other clients such as, Palringo, which also do the same thing with more or less features; I personally enjoy using Fring.  Assuming you already have one of these clients installed, I will proceed with instructions as to how to make a free VoIP call (I will demonstrate using Fring).

Leaked Specs on upcoming new iPhone

May 14
2009

Well, due to all the new info leaks, millions of chip orders from Apple, and “iPhone 2,1″ and “iPhone 3,1″ finds in the data strings in newer firmwares, it is inevitable that there is a new iPhone on the way. Apple, as usual, has been completely silent about this and never mentioned anything related to a new iPhone. But for the last two years at the WWDC new iPhones have been introduced with new major firmware updates, such as the iPhone 3G and Firmware 2.0 (with the “billion apps downloaded” successful App Store) and at this year’s WWDC, it will be Firmware 3.0 with loads of new features. It has been been confirmed that Steve Jobs will NOT return in time for WWDC happening June 8 – June 13, so analysts are expecting that there will be a second event where Jobs will make his triumphant return and bring a lot of new things with him, including the new iPhone. Apple’s WWDC Keynote will take place on Monday June 8th, at 10AM and wil be presented by Phil Schiller, who has hosted Apple’s last two events. Regarding the new iPhone, a user on a Chinese Apple fan site named  patapon200 claims to have tried the prototype as his partner works at the manufacturing company Foxconn.

Rogers Incoming Texts Charge

May 12
2009

Rogers being the leading telecommunications company in Canada, has decided to follow its competition in charging for incoming text messages. The charge will only be applied to those without an existing messaging plan.  This charge being 15 cents/msg, will commence on July 7th 2009. With the growing demand for texting, Rogers has claimed that it will only be affecting a small portion of its customers because most have a texting bundle already in their plans. Also, spam messages are free of charge, and Fido doesn’t have any changes in its text prices, being the discount brand for Rogers. Rogers, wants to keep industry practices equal and doesn’t want to divert interests. Other major companies like Telus and Bell have already had this charge since last summer. This move last summer caused a lot of controversy, even a couple of law suits. But now it has become accustomed to all major companies in Canada to charge for incoming text messages.

Quick Tip: Google Search

May 12
2009

Here is a quick Google search tip.  This would allow you to find a desired media file such as a song right away.  First start up your browser and go to www.google.com.  Go to the Google search bar and type the following.

intitle: “index.of” (mp3|mp4) “Song Name”

You can state the  format you want within the brackets, here i have stated mp3 and mp4.  In the quotes you can state the song you want to search.  Here is a screenshot of the search bar.

HexRyde is not responsible for the searcher’s actions, this is just a tip to find a song name or an album done by an artist.
